A very common problem to fix is a small hole in drywall, in these pic's the hole is caused by a doorknob. First thing I do here is cut the round hole out to a rectangle or square. It is easier for me to find something of this shape and trace around the hole then to take out a tape measure. I then cut out around the pencil mark with a drywall saw, making sure I'm not cutting into anything in the wall.
