Now back to the door jam job...

Always safety first so get out your safety glasses. First thing I do is check for screws or nails that are in my line of cutting. I get out my circular saw and cut out the damaged area, I also set my blade to just past the depth of the wood to be cut. I not only cut out the damaged area but also try to make this straight as this is the area that I will be adding a new piece too. I don't want to go past the corner with the power saw, this will leave cut lines in my finished work. I use the hand saw to get into the corners.

Next is replacing the cut out area with wood that is the same thickness.
