a small job I did awhile ago
Here's a small job I did awhile ago, I was asked to add a water line for a company who was going to install a coffee maker at a later time. I first went to a valve on the line before this and shut off the water. I drained the line as much as would come out then cut the copper pipe with a pipe cutter. A bucket under the cut copper will collect the rest of the water in the line. I needed a 'T' and a valve and about 4"-5" of 1/2" copper and to finish off the list I needed a cap. I also needed my propane tourch and flux and solder. First thing I did was open the valve, I did not want to melt any rubber in the valve. I put together the two pieces on the valve first and then the cap, after this has cooled I got ready for the 'T'. I did the three ends of the 'T' at the same time, this way I don't loosen any joints when I heat up another.

After I was done hooking everything up it was time to do a test. I opened up the tap above in the sink, this way air has someplace to go. (very important) Next I slowly opened up the valve that I shut off earlier, and listened as the air came out of the taps. When I felt the air was all out I slowley turned off the tap valve, this will put presure on the line and if I am going to have a leak then it would show now. No leaks then I shut off the new valve I installed and my job is done. The installers of the coffee machine can now come in and cut off the cap and hook up to a water line and all they have to do is open up the valve and done.
