a pipe running floor to ceiling
In this situtation I had a problem, a pipe running floor to ceiling has a 'bell' in it. I think this is called a bell but not sure, anyways it is the female end of the pipe and sticks out past the studs. If I just board over this then the wall will not be plum and a bump in the wall will happen. I can't have this bump in the wall here cause I am installing a mirror and the mirror will not bend. I want this wall to be plum, the mirror will cover the pipe so I cut around the pipe and installed the drywall. Now I cut out a piece of drywall bigger then the pipe cutout and ripped off the paper only on the drywall. The trick here is to use the paper as a patch, using the mud as the glue. Put mud on the wall around the holes and then on the paper patch as well, now squeeze out as much mud as you can and let dry. This patch would not stand up to a exposed area as this would crack for sure down the road but here the mirror will cover it and now the spiders can't get in, so this works.

This area is above the back of the toilet and to the left.
