a material and tool list
I've talked about this jamb for a few days now, what I wanted you to do was to do the job in you head. Make a material and tool list and pretend your going to do the job. Here is what I did and remember the customer wanted this done cheap and fast so they can lock their door.
First thing I did was cut out the busted piece of jamb, I only went back to the doorstop. I used a circular saw for this and then used a hand saw to get into the corners that the circular saw could not. After this I cut a replacement piece the same size and used shims to keep it in place and then used 3" nails to hold it in place. I also added some construction adhesive to give it that little extra hold. After this has dried I installed the lock hardware, drilled the hole first. Some finishing touches with wood putty and put up the casing.

This job was cheaper and faster then replacing the whole jamb, the customer said they will do this but for now this will do. Putting back the weather strip and some paint and you will hardly know this jamb was broken a short time ago.
