Stabila level

Before I do anything I want to make sure my lines are level and plumb. This is a 5' Stabila level and I make sure the air bubble is in the centre of the lines. I measure the wall and mark the centre of the wall, then do some more measurements to find out what my border tiles will be. In this case they will be the same as the floor tiles as I want all my lines to match up. I mix my thinset and then let it sit for about 10 mins. I mix it again without adding more water, get out my 3/8" trowel and ready to go. I only put on as much thinset as I can work with, in this case 12 tiles.

I add the border tiles after the full tiles, you can do any pattern you like, I find it easier to cut the border tiles then place them on the wall after they have all been cut.

I only go so high with the tiles, if I went to the ceiling then the weight of the top tiles will push down the lines of the lower tiles.
